I have had it with this year.

Carrie Fisher is the last damned straw.

I was in first grade when the first Star Wars came out.  (I was such a geek that my dad had to build me a rolling R2D2 costume out of plywood and tagboard. It had casters for wheels.  I had to be lifted inside it and the paper mache headpiece tied on with elastic.  Twas awesome.) I was too young to get how amazing it was to have a female lead who could handle a blaster and mouth off to the bad guys, but believe me, I grew up EXPECTING that because of Princess Leia and Lieutenant Uhura.

This year has only gone to show me how little people have learned about the stupidity of bigotry in any form.  I have dumped a few friends I didn't know as well as I thought because of it.

People suck.
2016 sucks.

Animals are awesome though so beware the photodump.  We went to the Miami Zoo and saw the river wolves at last.  I only got one good shot out of about 200 because all otters are hyperactive bastards, but giant otters are worse than most.  It matters not.  I had a joyous time trying.

I am also thinking of publishing a book titled "Photography fails - butt shots from the wild" as I have the most hilarious collection of rumps, tails, and tushies that were ALMOST what I was going for.

It was so unexpected to lose Carrie Fisher.  I grew up on Star Wars like any other 80s kid so this was hit in way I didn't expect.

Its like a total (bad) wow moment when I heard her mother died too.  I only hope 2017 is better!

I agree. I am gonna burn my 2016 calendar.
You know... working retail either turns people into true loving humanitarians or into antisocial assholes. I have found myself in the antisocial asshole catagory... when I told someone who came to my store an hour before closing looking for cranberry salad and I said I had all MY ducks in a row well in advance and I had no sympathy. (She was being a royal bitch, so it's not like I was chewing out an innocent lady who just made a mistake.)
I'm going to take the Camaro out for a drive. This year has been depressing.

Heh...she'll be better prepared next year.  See? 2017 is looking up already.    Enjoy your drive.

OMG I am so done with 2016! Empire Strikes Back was my very first movie seen on the big screen which was at the drive in and growing up I thought princesses were badass. I would wear a dress in the sandbox and throw sand bombs on the neighbor boy below me. Also had to have pigtails since my hair was too short to put in buns in kindergarten. I was watching 20/20 and tearing up and I know it's not all the meds I'm on.

Yeah, got some bronchitis on the 22nd because I must have been on the naughty list this year 😑

A New Hope was mine...or at least the first I remember.  It was so crowded we had to pay extra for balcony seats (yeah...balcony seats 'cause stadium seating hadn't been invented yet.)

Oh I totally cried over this one...and I'm not on meds.

Joy.  I have managed to avoid bronchitis this year but I do understand.  Let me guess...you're on a z-pack and steroids.

Yep, you guessed correctly!

Now her mother has passed from the heartache of losing her daughter, that poor family having to deal with the loss of a sister, mother and grandmother within 48 hours.

Maybe Monday after some sleep I will note you the hell this week has been yet a learning experience too. I'm feeling better, just got to remember that running across a lobby, flight of stairs and up the ladder to a roof hatch all at once is not something my body wants me to do yet. That's me preview and will note you in the new year.

Join the club. I hate 2016, too. :( And I've done the same with a few "friends" of mine.

I'm unfortunately too young to have seen the original Star Wars trilogy when they first came out. I did see Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, but...eh. It's not quite the same. :/ I love that your dad made an R2D2 outfit for you! :D

Bring on the animal photos! I love 'em. :meow:

I sincerely hope you do publish that book. I'd buy it, just to amuse myself. :)

I am trying to have a "good riddence to bad rubbish" attitude towards the whole thing, but I am so shocked at the people I've had to cut loose that I am now looking at nearly everyone with suspicion.

My dad, on the other hand,  is awesome.  He took it to his school and had it in the library for years. (It stood quite nicely on it's own.)  Eventually though some kids vandalized it.  :/

Heh...I will probably have to self publish it.

I know what you mean by that. :( Just have to cut off people and not think about it too much. There's a quote from Pride & Prejudice that I think perfectly explains my general opinion of people: “There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.” I don't know what you make of it.

That's so sweet of him. :D Shame about the vandalism. Someone has to spoil it, don't they? :shakefist:

I hope you do. :)

Actually I think that quote sums me up pretty well.

Sadly that's true, but I like to think it had a good run for a Halloween costume.

Heh...the book will have to get in line with all the other dumb projects I keep giving myself.  At least I am never bored.

I know!!! I was in the same grade when I first saw the movie. Princess Leia has been a role model for me throughout my life. My heart skipped a few beats when I heard about her heart attack and broke when I heard she died.

May the Force be with you Carrie Fisher!

It's hard to believe it's been so long.

I am genuinely sad...like way more than I probably should be.

It's awesome when there is a parent (or mentor) who supports and encourages your creativity and spunk.  Awesome dad you have.

I do love your idea of a photography book.  I think there are several kids who would love it! Trying to name the animal from just it's rear?   And on top of that, and encouragement to other photographers who had these perfect shots lined up , when animals change their minds about being photographed!

Carrie Fisher was an inspiration to many, but yes, Leia a monumental woman of power. (Thank you George Lucas).

To Illmatar, your sweet hubby, and your furry friends, may 2017 be kinder to you. (hugs)

My dad is great.  My book idea is so silly it might actually work...but I will likely have to self-publish.

Thanks.  You too, but I am not optimistic.
