Surgery is tomorrow on our little friend.

It is going to be massively expensive - about $1800 on top of the $300 we already threw at her, but at least we don't have to put her down.

I'm thinking of asking for donations, but as much as this scares me we are glad she has a good chance to be OK. She will never be totally OK, but the vet thinks she will have a good life.

I totally lost it after they told us that - and I was the one telling Michael not to get too attached.

The surgery will be on the broken leg. It will probably be a bit stunted and gimpy but she'll manage. The foreleg with either get better or it won't. If it remains paralyzed they have have to do another surgery down the line to fuse the wrist. (Cats with this kind of paralysis have feet that curl under instead of out in front. Fusing the bone would leave her stiff legged but able to walk.) Right now we wait and see if it comes back by itself.

I'm still thinking of trying to find her a home. I worry about her handling the others after her recovery. Gadget thinks it's funny to harass the girls. Marcus is like the Tasmanian Devil when he's excited. He just whirls around and crashes into things. Simba sometimes decides to be a bully, and Moriah beats the crap out of everyone when she's in a snit...including the dogs.

Now the hard part - thinking of a name that suits her, doesn't sound too much like one we already have, has a strong first syllable (so they can hear it), and has not already been used by us or anyone we know. (This will be hard - both of our families are large and prone to pets.)
