OK guys! Thanks for numerous suggestions! I have, in the interest of composition taken artistic license with my own character. ..... How does that work exactly? The trouble with Lancer is she is supposed to have a very matte, very non-reflective paint job. You know, she's always yelling at the Bots for having paint-jobs that allow them to be targeted from space.

"Might as well paint a great big bulls-eye on you head and get it over with!" "Robots in disguise? Disguised as what? A clown? A carnival ride? Or just a big, dumb target?" "Ah yes...you and your 'shoot me now' paint job!"

She's so pleasant and all. (This gives you an idea of my reaction the day they released that version of the Optimus toy with "Optimus" written in big letters down the side of the trailer. Sorta defeats the purpose ya know?!)

However, there is also a certain amount of stupidity involved in drawing a character who is meant to be hard to see. ... Invisible art. Could be a new trend. No? No. I can hear her in my head saying sarcastic things about being wrapped in neon lights for dramatic effect. Heh. Poor baby. Shut up Lancer! I'm in charge.

No...I'm not schizophrenic. Why do you ask?

In any case, I am still not thrilled with this, so if anyone wants to throw more at me, please bring it! Maybe you can help me put a gag on those voices in my head.

OC Lancer from my fancomic/fanfiction Maelstrom. [link] If you are old enough to clear the M blocks and want to read a LONG Gen 1 TF fan-story with lots of violence have please start with the comics in my gallery. They are in the folders on the side. If you are looking for TF's cuddling this is probably not the story for you anyway. Does she look snugly to you?

Oh, I thought I was the only one with the voices in my head, LOL! I like what you did here. I would say she would be hard to see in space. And with all the planes and ledges in her design, it would be hard to detect with radar. So far so good. She does not look snugly to me. LOL

Oh no. My characters often take the reins and run off with my stories. Lancer isn't the worst though. Elita...Elita is the worst. It is very hard to write for characters who are so much smarter than I am.

I'm glad Lancer doesn't look cuddly though.

Stephen King writes that way too. He lets the story 'play out' and then he writes as it does!

I love Stephen King. I even met him once. He has a house in Sarasota and a guy I was selling a camera to at Best Buy turned out to be the contractor who retrofitted King's house after that car accident that almost killed him.

I was very proud of myself for NOT going all drooling fan-girl on the guy while he talked to my customer.

Awesome!!!! I met Col. Sanders of KFC fame and yay, I didn't act stupid. He was looking for a way to get into the Hines Auditorium at the Prudential Center in Boston. I just happen to be there at the time. So I checked doors and stuff for him but non were open!

I bet he appreciated the help. What I liked about King was he just walked in and did his shopping without making a big deal of himself. That Best Buy is frequented by several other B-list celebrities (it's near a very well-to-do area that is NOT well known to the public.) We also had some members of Aerosmith show up now and then (they were cool too actually) and Jerry Springer was there often. He's a jerk. He doesn't go to shop - he goes with an entourage to be seen. Seriously? You go to Best Buy to be seen? Best Buy is the best you can do? You go in, disrupt the place, sign autographs, and leave...at Best Buy?!

I could never decide what was more sad...his need to have his ego stroked or the fact that so many people would gleefully circle around to stroke it.

Jerry Springer? He is such a bottom feeder! When I worked at 'Ken's at Copley' restaurant in Boston, oftentimes celebrities would come in.Some came in and were quietly nice. Others were real bee-otches.That gal that played Edith on Laugh-in was one of the latter so I heard. I was actually there but in a different dining room busing tables at the time.

He certainly is. Fortunately he never came to my department. If I stubbornly treat the guy I really am a fan of like an ordinary person, I certainly would not have fawned over him - and that probably would have pissed him off.

Very nice. What program did you use for this? If you use Photoshop, I can give you the technique I use for lightning/electricity. I love what you got, but more tools for the tool belt are always good in my opinion. I really love how dark Lancer is in this picture.

It is indeed Photoshop and the lightning is nothing more fancy than the airbrush tool. I'd love something better if you have a notion! Thanks!

Create a new layer through the menu (layer>new layer). In the options set the mode to screen and click the flag for fill area with neutral black. Go to the layer with your lightning in it and select all of the lightning (click the thumbnail either command click for mac or cntrl click for pc). Go back to your new layer and do a paint bucket fill for the lightning lines (use white for the color). Duplicate the screened layer three times. On the first duplicate layer apply a gaussian blur at either 2, 5, or 10. On the second duplicate apply a gaussian blur at 4, 10, or 20, depending on what you did with the first duplicate. On the third duplicate apply another gaussian blur at 6, 15, or 30. Merge all three duplicates with the original screened layer. To change the color of the lightning go to Image>Color Balance. Adjust the midtones and highlights to the colors you like. Make sure to keep the preserve luminosity flag checked on. After that you can keep the lightning as is or adjust its opacity to blend it with your original airbrush lines. Hope this works for you.

Your joke about invisible art reminded me a Sesame Street episode I once watched with my daughter.

Grover held up what looked like a blank canvas and when asked what it was replied quiet happily that it was a polar bear lost in a blizzard.

I love the purple shading. Looks like she's about to reach out through the picture to smack someone...

I like this composition. Not sure about the purple background, maybe it's just personal preference. As always I love your optics!

The only problem I can find in the drawing is her upper arm. I could be wrong but it seems too short/small to me. You have the beautiful lower arm and then a kind of stick for the upper arm. I dunno if that's what you were going for. It's probably a female dog to draw. I suck at proportions :B

She's supposed to look pretty skeletal (easier to see on her other dev.) so if anything, I over-did the forearm. As for purple, well, it's my fave color so I need to play with it once in a while. If I wasn't so lazy maybe I would do a real background once in a while.

Thanks! :) Comments are always helpful.

:) Well I didn't like it since she kinda fades into the background since it's a dark color. But I understand about the favorite color ;) I love pink and don't get to use that often. I ditto you about drawing actual backgrounds. I'm usually so happy I figured the drawing that I go "who needs a background" :P

NP!

She looks amazing against the puple backdrop.

I'm debating agreeing with you. I tried some of that and found it oddly distracting, but I may have some more experimenting to do. :) Thanks for the thoughts - I was sorta hoping it wouldn't bother anyone but obviously it does.

I think it should be ever faint so it does not stand out and distract the viewer from Lancer or it would be too much :D

Yeah. I will try again when I am not so PO'd at her. The armor is supposed to be a matte finish so there isn't supposed to be a lot of reflection. She is supposed to be hard to see. On the other hand doing a drawing of a largely invisible character is sort of a waste of time.

Maybe add some more highlights/stark contrast where the energy is arcing around her? Like around her 'braid', tail and shoulder.

I like the way that the bolts have a wispy appearance. Some of them appear to be fading out while others are powerful. Am I even making sense?

Personally, I would like to see a little more contrast between Lancer and the background. She sorta fades away...but that might be due to screen resolution and bad eyesight on my end.

She looks great.

Yes you make sense and I'm glad you like that part 'cause I like it too...however, you are the 3rd person to say she needs more highlights so I guess she is officially now a WIP.
