Description
Revised. The original line art was part of the my black and white comics.

For the whole story start here:
The second version was a really quick paint job by my ex-roomie. Needed updating...badly. Optimus didn't look nearly pissed enough. Can't have that - this is Maelstrom.
This scene Optimus is having a conversation with Jazz after a nasty fight involving both the Decepticons and the Quints.
Art and story - mine.
Transformers characters - Hasbro's
From the pages of Maelstrom - 9 full B&W comics and a few thousand pages of fan-fiction. Rated M for violence and language.

Though you mention in the description that the coloring job on this piece was quick, it's one of the features about this piece of artwork that I like the most. It almost looks as though this piece was colored with colored charcoal.
Optimus Prime is a very recognizable character and there are a few aspects to the piece which seem a bit off, mostly the dimensions. From what I've seen, Optimus Prime is a much wider character, especially in the torso. This piece seems to have more human dimensions which makes this version of Optimus Prime look a little bit like an adolescent in a Halloween costume.
The detail on of the Autobots logo on his shoulder is very well done, as is the detail given to the space background which is only shown on the left-side of this piece, an effect which definitely makes this piece work better.
All in all this is an exceptional piece of fan-art, with just a few inconsistencies as far as the dimensions are concerned.
