Zoo Miami:  Miami (obviously,) Florida

I have to explain this title.  I have a sort of thing for otters.  (My :ionMGMags: would tell you I am a bit obsessed with otters, but we all know I'm never obsessive....)

The last time we were at Zoo Miami they were just announcing their plans for an Amazon section...including the Giant River Otters.  I have been ummm...politely asking (begging, whining, demanding, nudging, threatening) to go see them ever since.  We missed about half the zoo because sat with these guys so long.

They are called River Wolves for a reason.  They are A M A Z I N G.  Over six feet of grace, mischief, and power.  They never stop.  I took like 200 shots.  This earned me 199 pictures of brown blurs, tails, empty water, beautifully focused water droplets on the windows, and my own lovely reflection.

And this one clear, awesome shot.

Totally worth it.  They are so feisty and so much fun.  The noises they make are unworldly!

You know I love them so much and we have river otters all over around here.  I saw flipping wild Florida panther before I laid eyes on a wild otter.  We hunted in Myakka....we scoured the Everglades....we trekked Corkscrew Swamp (where my friend had a family of them invite her to play while they used the board walk ramps for a slide....)  Where did I finally see the one I saw?  In some deep woods or swamp?  Nope.  Across the street from my house in a puddle-sized retention pond between the club house and the tennis courts of my neighborhood.  He had a large (eaten) fish head and some lost tennis balls which he played with quite happily while oblivious yuppies played tennis.

They like to mess with my head...I swear it.
