Parkinglot Peacock by illmatar Parkinglot Peacock by illmatar
A pretty typical peacock shot...in an atypical location. This guy and his pals have taken up residence in the parking lot of our local Best Buy. They have quite a little colony going. We don't know where they came from but they've been there for years...and they have a large, lonely rooster who hangs out with them. Mostly he sits on top of Best Buy's dumpster and looks menacing. XD

They are very funny. They like Florida's weather apparently because there are several neighborhoods that have small flocks.

lol, one of my friends used to live in FL and told me a story about a peacock that lived in their yard. one night she went outside to take a picture of him and he went around the corner of her house, she followed him and he went around the next corner and so on until the last corner. at the last corner he went around and paused before peeking around the side of the house, like "are you coming?"

Definitely the best peacock story. They don't mess around, these birds.

Heh. Yeah...and that I'm not a neighbor! I have a friend who works at that Best Buy and he says when he works early they do that piercing, repetitive call of theirs, just like roosters do.

Peacocks are pretty, but man are they mean! Strange that they choice that little spot along with the rooster too. Weird indeed.

You would not believe how congested and busy that area is too...there are plenty of trees, but the Best Buy is basically wedged between an 8 lane road and an interstate. The peacocks seem to be healthy and thriving though. There are very old, massive live oaks in the parking lot and they roost up there. Its a bit surreal to see birds of that size looking down at you. As for the rooster, he seems to think he owns the whole place. Its not too surprising they get along though since they are related and act a lot alike. Now all we need are some pheasants and some guinea fowl and we'll have the set!

Lol! I can see those pretty things being arrogant by pooping on shiny cars. XD

Heh, yeah...ignore that!

There's a guy who owns a bunch of chickens in the next neighborhood and hear them darn things crowing early in the morning when I leave for college. Freaks me out because our subdivision doesn't allow for livestock. Back in my uncle's neighborhood, we had a bunch of Russian guys (probably the mafia) who used keep a bunch of goats in their yard since they were too damned lazy to mow it themselves.

ROTF! Fortunately the trees are over grassy areas and do NOT overhang the parking lot. The peacocks just wander between the cars...now the rooster ya gotta watch out for.

Damn! I wish I had goats to do my yard...but my neighborhood won't allow livestock either. On the other hand, if I joined the Russian mafia, I could probably get away with it! Great! Thanks for the plan!

Lol! Attack chicken!

Pfffft, those dudes were nuts, man. Had the windows open during rainstorms and kept their cars in the back yard rather then in the driveway...
