Oh Heavenly Bear by illmatar Oh Heavenly Bear by illmatar
This is NOT a photo-manipulation. This is a shot from the polar bear exhibit at the Columbus Zoo. They have an underground viewing area of the bears' pool and part of the roof extends out into the swimming area. This allows the bears to SIT right on the glass roof. I just love the way the fish and the clouds in the sky above bend right around her. I heard angels, seriously!

WOW!!
That word came instantly into my mind when I first saw this picture. This is a 'NG photo of the day' typical shot. At first, I thought this was taken from under the frozen sea. The fact that this was taken at the zoo seems doesn't make this picture less interesting for me. The good point is =illmatar's vision has succeed bring out zoo to looked like a real nature for the bear, in his picture.

The composition is great, those fishes in foreground act as a frame to keep our eye in the main subject, the bear.

Same things with the lighting. The backlighting in here create a good silhouette, which is perfect to strengthen the impact of this picture. The backlighting also enlighten the fur all around this bear's body, give him a little rim light. And a little light bouncing from the glass also give a little detail on the face. Although a little more detail on that are would make this picture perfect.

This shot is absolutely fantastic. You're fortunate to not only have been there at the perfect moment, but having had such a glorious environment from which to view this polar bear. I wish our zoo had something like this.

This entire shot is so amazingly surrealistic. Thank you for uploading.

I squealed like a moron when I saw that shot came out. It's so hard to tell from the LCD screen - I was holding my breath. I think it's my all time luckiest shot.

Great shot! Your lucky that you didn't get the people's reflections around you on the glass. Always seems to happen to me. :(

Oh I get that too most of the time. Fortunately this time the glass was over my head and with the sun coming down there were no reflections at all.
