i find this photo very attractive because those wings are beautiful! its amazing how nature can make something so eye catching and someone to catch it like this! i absolutely LOVE how you can hardly see any ground under those wings.

the only problem is that it looks a bit blurry. maybe if you edited it on picnik.com or something, or raised the contrast/sharpness/exposure etc, then it would go together even more perfectly! another is that, if possible, raise the camera above the birds a little higher, it would help get in more of the face of the wing, since the face of the wing would be toward the sun.
but overall, i absolutely LOVE this picture! i just couldn't imagine standing in front of those huge wings

Everyone I showed is so in awe of this photo^^ Do you remember how many individuals there were?

WAY more than the picture shows...maybe 200?  They had most of the parking lot.  Myakka is famous for them, and they are unafraid of people.  They were also all over the buildings, trees, and railings...maybe 5-600 in total?

:)  Glad you like it.  It certainly was glorious in person.  Vultures are under-appreciated in my opinion.

We've caught them actually playing soccer with a ball.  Running around, pushing and kicking it ahead of themselves.  I laughed so much I completely forgot to USE my camera until it was too late.

:) Thanks - I felt very fortunate that day. Now if I get REALLY lucky I will get a good shot of them playing soccer with an abandoned ball someday. The time I saw that I forgot my camera completely I was laughing so hard.

Yes!

One day over coffee, I can bend your ear for hours how Pre-Columbian humans thought that the vulture escorted the souls of the dead beyond the sun and into the pathway of the galaxy. What we call the Northern Cross was the great spirit bird to people spanning almost every culture in the northern hemisphere. ;)

I have a shot somewhere (I don't think I ever posted it) of a turkey vulture sunning it's wings. My fellow art teacher/pal Gwen is convinced that's what inspired all the Thunderbird stories too...or maybe the condors.

All together I'd say about 200, but they were spread out in little packs across the parking lot and along the tops of the tree and buildings. We'd just had a light rain and they were all drying their feathers.

The park has a few thousand vultures and a few hundred of them came to give us a show that morning. We had just had a light rain so everyone had wet feathers.

This is a neat shot - I like that you have cropped it to be just the birds. It creates a sense of crowding and not a bit of confusion, given the lack of reference to anything other than the birds.

Thanks! :) I didn't have to crop much...in fact if I wasn't such a fumble fingers I wouldn't have had to crop at all. There were easily 50 of them here, and they let us walk right up to them.
